Peru, the country with two recent Grand Slam winners, Maju Mantilla, Miss World 2004, and Silvia Cornejo, Miss Tourism Queen 2008, will have a new Miss World Peru later tonight. Twenty-two beautiful delegates fight for the crown and the right to represent Peru in Miss World 2009. Who will the winner be? Here are some tidbits about this year’s pageant…

* The pageant will happen at open air, at the Paseo de Aguas Municipal Park, in Lima. The extraordinary setting promises to be one of the most stunning in the pageant’s history. The show will be hosted by Carlos Cepeda and Silvia Cornejo (Miss World Peru 2006 and Miss Tourism Queen 2008) and will be telecast live by Canal 7;

* Miss La Libertad is the niece of Miss World 2004, Maria Julia Mantilla;

* Miss Cajamarca, one of the tallest in the group, once played volleyball at Peru’s national team;

* The preliminary interview with the judges took place on Thursday night. The important scores the delegates received from the judges will help determining the 12 semi-finalists. The overall intelectual level and communications skills of this group was considered very high by most judges;

* The contestants were coached by Monica Chacon, Miss World Peru 1996 and the International Queen of Coffee 1997 winner;

* One of the finalists will be chosen to represent Peru at Miss Tourism Queen 2009, in China;

* Olga Zumaran, Miss Peru Universe 1978 and Miss World Peru 1981, was crowned Mrs. Peru 2009 last Thursday. She will also be one of the judges;

* Miss World Peru is directed by the very talented Tito Paz. The competition is very well-organized and the contestants are enjoying themselves tremendously. The group is very united and there’s a lot of harmony among the candidates.
